The shining star of this fragrant triad is certainly our sustainably harvested hinoki — or Japanese cypress. Traditionally used in Shinto ceremonies and purification rituals, as well as in the building of temples and shrines, hinoki is incomparable. There is something within its effects reminiscent of the Japanese concept of ma, or emptiness, pause, space. Like the quiet, still moment between exhale and inhale.
